Jesse Poe is Brooklyn based singer songwriter who has released critically acclaimed records under the name Tanakh joined by an eclectic cast of musical collaborators such as: Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian), Jim White, Mic Turner (Dirty 3), David Lowery (Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven), Ned Oldhamn (Palace/The Anomoanon), Paul Watson (Sparklehorse/Bee & Flower), Jessica Billey (Smog/Boxhead Ensemble).
Currently Poe is performing solo and recording under his own name as well as working on new studio recordings with Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mother Temple/Mainliner) as a duo. A live album of their 19 song concert at the Woolfe Festival is due for release Winter 2022.
Poe has produced songs and records for Jim White, The Anomoanon, Pelt, Mick Turner’s Bonnevill project, Tiger Saw, The Iditarod, Six Organs of Admittance, Koester, etc. singing back up as well as playing a variety of instruments on the recordings and playing live with the artists. Poe has also studied Karnatic vocals and sitar for three years under Nirmal Bajekal, who appears on Tanakh’s Villa Claustrophobia release.
Poe has done film music for short independent films including Greater than 1/2. He has worked as a producer and an engineer both in the US and overseas and has published short stories, poems, and creative non-fiction in various magazines and journals.
